Experience with Platinum Life
I had medical aid cover but when one talks about miracles I have to say mine happened before I even went to the doctor. I had decided to move to a different medical aid at the beginning of the year, and normally there is a 3-month waiting period. I filled everything in and the lady I spoke to said, “You are a member now.” I said, “Excuse me, but don’t I have to wait three months?” She said, “No everything is fine.” I had written down everything including my gynaecological history. That was in January and at the end of that month, before I had even made my first payment, I went for my first gynaecological check-up.
I had surgery on the 29th of February, so I had only made two payments and the whole hysterectomy was covered, I think I only paid R1000 for blood tests. However, when I went to the oncologist she wasn’t on the network option with my medical aid and she was in price bracket that was considerably higher. It was about R12 000 that I had to pay over to her and there were blood tests that the medical aid didn’t cover. That’s not an amount that I just have lying around or that I have in my bank account, and that’s where Platinum Life saved me.
The money was paid out very quickly. I took the paperwork in because I thought if I send all of it using the fax machine, it would burn out. I decided to take all of it through personally and I must say it was one of the most unbelievable experiences that I’ve ever had, because it was the first time I had done something like that. My mother and I went together but from the time that I walked in to the time that I left, I have to say that I was treated with so much compassion and empathy. You know, I cry very easily and I could really cry right now even though I don’t cry much anymore. It was just amazing! All the paperwork had been checked, another lady was called and she said, “Everything is fine, and it’s precisely what we need. We will let you know exactly what’s going on and please call us if you have any questions.”
It really was an extraordinary manner in which to be treated, and with so much compassion! I read up on a few things and there were some people complaining that they weren’t paid out for whatever reason. Then you think, “Well, this is such a rare form of cancer, will they actually pay me out?”, but there were no problems whatsoever. I called in one day to ask whether all the papers had been received and I was told that the process was in the last phase. I received a text letting me know that the claim would be finalised within two days and two or three days later the money was in my account. It paid for quite a few things and it really came in handy.
It seems everyone at work wants to join Platinum Life now, but I joked that they should remember they first have to have cancer before receiving any gifts. I received this fantastic box that made me cry, because at that stage my hormones were making me cry about everything. It was such a thoughtful gift with the loveliest pyjamas and slippers, a book with a bookmark, a teacup (that I still use!) and exquisite tea and a Musica gift voucher. I just stood there and cried, everyone asked whether I was okay but I just showed them what I had received. It was a gift that made me think the person that bought it for me has real sympathy for people who have been through what I had been through.
Then I received yet another gift voucher, and I must say if I wasn’t on the medication I’m currently taking I would still cry about it now! It was the cherry on the cake, a gift voucher from Pick n Pay. It has been a very long time since I have purchased as much as I did from Pick n Pay with that voucher. I bought things that I wouldn’t normally buy, and I thought, “Wow, I can buy this now because it’s not costing me anything.” It was amazing, I have never come across any other company that has provided such wonderful service, the way Platinum Life did.
