At just 31, with two young children, she was diagnosed with breast cancer only weeks after taking out her Platinum Life policy. Through surgery, treatment and some of the hardest days of her life, she continues to choose hope, strength and the small moments that matter most.
In August 2025, I decided to take out a policy with Platinum Life. It was not an impulsive decision, but one shaped by my family history. All the women on my father’s side of the family have had or battled breast cancer. My grandmother was diagnosed at just 31, and both of my aunts were diagnosed in their thirties or forties.
Knowing that I was at high risk, I wanted to take precautions and protect myself and my family. Little did I know how quickly my life would change.
I was also only 31 when I discovered a lump under my arm. I decided not to take any chances and immediately went for tests. Less than six weeks after joining Platinum Life, on 24 October 2025, my doctor told me the words no one is ever truly prepared to hear:
“You have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma – breast cancer.”
In that moment, my world stood still.
Your first thoughts are, “What now? How am I going to get through this?” You wonder how you will walk this road, how you will protect your family, and how you will cope emotionally and financially.
As a mother of two small children, who were only one-and-a-half and two-and-a-half years old at the time, it was heartbreaking. They could not understand why Mommy was so sad, why some days I did not have the energy to play with them, or why Mommy suddenly had no hair.
Still, every day you try to stay strong and show yourself and your family that cancer will not defeat you.
Then came the long journey of specialists, oncologists, scans, surgeries and treatments.
Alongside the emotional burden came financial concerns. Even with medical aid, there are limits to what is covered. At the same time, you are no longer able to work as you normally would, so your income decreases while your expenses continue to grow.
Just as those worries started to take over, Platinum Life contacted me to let me know that my policy would pay out.
That call meant so much more than financial assistance. It gave me peace of mind. I no longer had to lie awake worrying about how I would pay the next bill.
Instead, I could focus my energy on what mattered most – getting better, being there for my children, and being the best mother to them and wife to my husband that I could be.
The payout helped me cover the additional medical costs, expenses and other financial pressures that come with cancer. It allowed me to focus on my recovery rather than my financial worries.
My journey is still not over.
I recently underwent a bilateral mastectomy and have now started the tissue expansion process. Once that is complete, radiation will be the next step in my treatment.
There are difficult days, days when the pain, exhaustion and emotions feel overwhelming.
But there are also days when I almost forget that I have cancer. Days when I can laugh again, feel hopeful and enjoy the small moments with my family.
I have learnt that your mindset and the people who support you can make an incredible difference. With a positive outlook, faith and an amazing support network, it is possible to face even the hardest storms.
Today, I can say with sincere gratitude that Platinum Life kept their promises. From the very beginning, I was treated with compassion, respect and professionalism, and I continue to receive the same excellent service.
I truly hope that no one ever finds themselves in a position where they need to claim from their policy. But when the unexpected happens, I can say from personal experience that there is an indescribable sense of reassurance in knowing you have a company like Platinum Life on your side.
Thank you, Platinum Life, for helping me breathe again during one of the most difficult times of my life. You gave me more than a payout; you gave me peace of mind when I needed it most.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Platinum Life to anyone who wants to protect their family against the unexpected.
